After the rebel war, from 1991 through 2002, many children were displaced from family members and home villages. Two individuals, Abu and Emmanuel Conteh, felt they could help by opening an orphanage. Starting with a rented house in Makeni they started with 12 orphans, mostly under 10 years of age. With help from individuals, and churches in Colorado, the orphanage moved to a new custom built location in Waterloo. Two of the original orphans have graduated high school and are looking to further their education. New younger orphans have been added and plans are under way to build a primary school to serve their immediate area. A constant problem with the C.R.O.P Orphanage is having enough funds to feed the children.
